Help decide how to use the NPU-W Community Impact Grant

Bring dull knives, scissors, garden tools, and pretty much any other kind of blade to get a fresh edge to BPA’s garden day where Premier Sharpening and Repair will be on-site sharpening for just $1 per inch of blade. While the sharpeners do their thing, you can help get the BPA garden looking sharp. Plus the sharpeners will donate 20 percent of the proceeds back to the garden program.

A yearly $20 household membership fee is just one of the ways EACA raises money to fund community service projects, neighborhood improvements, and fight for the policies its members find most important and since the calendar year has just begun and we hope you will Become an EACA Member.

The City of Atlanta Parks and Recreation Department seeks your feedback in connection with providing enhanced services and programs that will contribute to the overall sustainability of the Brownwood Recreation Center. Please take a moment to complete the survey.

Join Councilmember Archibong and Representative Bee Nguyen featuring APD Chief Erika Shields for a Joint Legislative Town Hall and Public Safety Update on February 19. The meeting will be held at Coan Park Recreation Center at 6:30 pm.

EACA President John Venneman just moved to East Atlanta from Reynoldstown in 2019! John lives in unincorporated DeKalb County with his wife and two derpy dogs, and he is an advocate for City annexation.

EACA Vice President Myron Polster has operated the East Atlanta Security Patrol since it began and is a former EACA Prez! Myron lives in the City of Atlanta with his wife and daughter, a Maynard Jackson High School student.

EACA Secretary Michelle Rice has been the CEO of the EAV Strut since 2016, runs the Burgess-Peterson Academy Organic Garden, and has volunteered for just about everything else in East Atlanta for more than a decade. Michell lives in the City of Atlanta with her husband and dogs.

EACA Treasurer Ralph Green has been EACA's Treasurer for several years and has served as one of East Atlanta's representatives at Neighborhood Planning Unit-W for many years. He lives in the City of Atlanta with his wife. 

EACA will be applying for grant funding via NPU-W to the Atlanta Planning Advisory Board's Community Impact Grant Program. Last year, this grant funded the street closure for EAV-o-ween and our September neighborhood meetup event - Damn, It's Hot (Yoga) at the East Atlanta Farmer's Market. Please submit your ideas for "community projects that will help community centered public spaces and promote safe and thriving neighborhoods" to [email protected].

Burgess-Peterson Academy is delighted to host the 6th Annual EAV Runfest on Saturday, March 28, 2020. For 2020, it will be the same format as previous events, with a 5K first, fun run for kids and parents of all ages, and finishing up with a 1 mile race where we will close down the roads in EAV for an awesome spectator friendly, two-lap, 1 mile race! And the best part is the first race starts until 10am, so you can even sleep in if you wish!

This year, you should resolve to help with the 2020 East Atlanta Strut.

The Strut needs the following: A social media coordinator, a person or group to run the kids area, and someone to help recruit sponsors, with a focus on corporations. If you want to know more, please contact Michelle Rice at [email protected]. The Strut is the fourth Saturday in September, which this year is September 26.

EACA seeks visual artists to propose designs for crosswalk murals on Flat Shoals Ave in East Atlanta Village. Interested parties should submit RFQ in accordance with the brief and submit by January 1, 2020.

This New Year’s Eve, December 31, 2019, East Atlanta Village will welcome in the new year with fireworks shows at 8pm and midnight with a full night of entertainment from 7pm until the revilers ring in the New Year. East Atlanta Village is hosting #ShopEAV on Saturday, November 30 as part of AMEX Small Business Saturday. Over 51 businesses will participate! Many East Atlanta home-based businesses will host pop-ups in EAV storefronts providing you with a wonderful opportunity to discover more ways to shop local and to score some great bargains. The Alpaca Treehouse in East Atlanta is hosting a monthly yoga class to support Pet Buddy’s Food Pantry, a neighborhood community pet outreach program. Join the llamas and alpacas for a grounded, relaxing yoga class led by Lanise Shortell on December 8th, from 10am to 12pm. Want to learn more?

Olympiadis, hear updates about the Lyndale Drive Annexation, discuss proposed changes to street parking near BPA, learn more about GDOT pedestrian count on Moreland Avenue, and learn more about East Atlanta Santa Fest and EACA Potluck and Elections.

Join EACA and SAND on Saturday, November 16th from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm. at the intersection of Moreland Ave SE and Ormewood Ave SE for the GDOT pedestrian count Have your Moreland Ave Passport stamped for prizes and discounts at area businesses! This count will determine whether we have sufficient pedestrian traffic for GDOT to install a crosswalk with a traffic signal on Moreland Avenue, somewhere between Pendleton and Ormewood.

While your ghouls and goblins are enjoying EAV-O-Ween this year bring them by the Neighbor In Need Photobooth from 6pm-8pm to get that perfect memory of the day.  For a suggested donation of $10, professional photographer Dani Weiss, of Dani Weiss Photography will get a great shot, do a little editing to really make it pop, and have it available on her site for download.  All proceeds got to Neighbor in Need to help keep elderly neighbors in EAV in their homes by doing emergency home repairs they simply can’t afford.  The photo booth is supported by Marc Takacs of In Atlanta Realtors .

EAV Runfest is looking for community volunteers to join it’s 2020 planning committee and will host a planning meeting on Wednesday November 6. During the meeting attendees can hear updates from EACA committees, hear about the latest development projects, details on neighborhood events, and members will vote on land use, zoning, and alcohol license applications.

Dogtoberfest, a family-friednly festival will return to East Atlanta Village on October 20.  Free for people and $5 per dog. Costume-contest entry is an additional $5 (entry form here.) Celebrity judges include dog trainer and TV star, Victoria Stillwell. All proceeds will benefit The W-Underdogs.
