Save Ormewood Forest! A fight to preserve Atlanta's urban canopy

Save Ormewood Forest has put together a petition to gather signatures and illustrate the community's commitment to this project.

We have made great headway in working with the city and made tangible progress in our efforts to preserve Ormewood Forest as greenspace! It is now time for our efforts to be redoubled and we can use your help!

A developer has recently filed plans with the city to rezone the property and build high-density housing in Ormewood Forest. This development will devastate the forest canopy and place an incredible strain on the headwater stream.
We urge everybody to attend East Atlanta Community Association and NPU meetings to make your voices heard and learn more about what is proposed.

— Save Ormewood Forest

In our community, there is a tract of land with the opportunity to be protected from mass tree clearing.

Ormewood Forest is 6.1 acres of old-growth trees, abundant wildlife and a headwater creek nestled in the heart of East Atlanta. The historically green property, between Ormewood Avenue and Shadowridge Drive, is at risk of being developed. Save Ormewood Forest is an effort to preserve the property, its extensive tree canopy, and the wildlife depending on it.

Several active community members are coming together with the goal of ensuring this land is purchased by Trees Atlanta and given back to East Atlanta as a community resource.

We have requested City of Atlanta officials to approve the use of available funding, including the Tree Recompense Fund, to purchase the property located at 770 Shadowridge Drive so that it can be preserved, maintained, and enjoyed by the community.

This property, though currently overrun with invasive species, has the potential to serve as a natural haven for its human and avian neighbors alike. When you close your eyes, what do you see? Do you hear the owl in the distance? Do you smell the sweet flowers that draw the hummingbirds to feed?

Have questions? Interested in getting involved? Much needs to be done! Getting in touch could not be easier.
